“Stranger than Fiction” by Chuck Palahniuk

“A good story should make you laugh, and a moment later break your heart.”

This is a collection of pieces by Chuck Palahniuk, best known for writing “Fight Club“. The pieces are a mix of the journalistic, the reflective and the bizarre.

The book gives an insight into some of the raw material that is processed into Chuck Palahniuk’s fiction. There are insightful profiles of rock star Marilyn Manson reading his own Tarot and indie-movie queen Juliette Lewis. There are the author’s impressions of the olympic wrestling, a demolition derby, the Rock Creek Lodge Testicle Festival and life aboard the submarine USS Louisiana .

There is a lot here about the process of writing and Chuck Palahniuk’s own story.

“all my books are about a lonely person looking for some way to connect with other people.”

Brad Pitt, star of Fight Club is often mentioned and how he had a cracked tooth crown fitted to play the role of Tyler Durden.

It is very quotable: “Solitude is a natural place for a writer to be.”

My rating : 4 out of 5
