The edible fig is one of the first plants that was cultivated by humans. It may even be the earliest, nine subfossil figs dating to about 9400–9200 BC were found in the early neolithic village of Gilgal in the Jordan Valley, the find predates the domestication of barley and wheat.

Adam and Eve covered their nudity with fig leaves, could the sweet fig have been the “forbidden fruit”?
