Book Review: The Martian Diaries Volume 1: The Day of the Martians by H E Wilburson

This novella serves as a sequel (the first in a series) to H G Wells’s seminal work ‘The War of the Worlds’, picking up the narrative 15 years later in 1913. The Martians are returning en masse, with no intention to negotiate. A mysterious Martian canister discovered in a Welsh hillside contains a peculiar blue powder called Tryfanite, which may hold the key to thwarting the alien invasion. While the dialogue at times feels contrived, it’s a daunting task to follow in the footsteps of a literary titan like Wells. I understand there is an audiobook version available with original music and sound effects, I merely read the e-book.

You don’t need to have read War of the Worlds to enjoy the book, there is enough detail about the backstory to follow the plot.

I received a free copy of the e-book from the author and publisher and leave this review voluntarily.

My rating 3.5 rounded up to 4 for Goodreads.
